Gabriel Burne in Session, reccomendations and The fantastic Art of Dwitt
Apologies for not posting anything for a while, it's probably been a combination of being firstly being busy and secondly being lazy.....that latter more of a reality!
However things have been pretty exciting over the last couple of months at Tuckshop, and these excitement levels probably reached their peak when we travelled down to the deepest depths of South West London to record a "Living room Session" with the guitar playing, song writing Wizard, known as Gabriel Burne.
What more can be said about the Artist known as Gabriel Burne?, a young man who is inspired from everything around him, a self confessed Leonard Cohen fan, who has a brother with a remarkable name and fine full head of hair. Add all of this to the fact that he can write a pretty good song and hey presto! Tuckshop had another fine session.
On a hot Sunny Saturday afternoon, we crammed ourselves into his small bedroom, myself armed with my trusty Mac and Gabriel well prepared with his guitar, once we got over the slight problem not having the essential lead (Hs good friend Will hastily biked over to his place to get one),we set dowm and recorded our session. Gabriel, accompanied by his mate Will and very glamorous lady friend, not only sang us through some fantastic songs, but also firmly entertained The Tuckshop faithful with his amusing anecdotes and introduction of some awesome artists which he was familiar with.
The pick of these artists that are worth checking out are Action Jackson, who provides this world with his unique take on old songs mixed together to produce something not only staggeringly original, but also music that even ones parent would find themselves tapping their foot too.
A sympton that also applies when hearing Jake Beattie, who not only can write a good melody but also add a good song to his already scientifically strong formula of good song + good music = Jake Beattie.
If you take the time out to listen to these fine artists, then you also should check out the fine songs of Will White, a man who entertains as a solo artist as well as fronting his brilliant Band Talk Taxis.
The Awesome Artistic Talent That is DWITT.
Over the last year or two, I've developed a rather unhealthy or healthy, (depending on how you view it )appetite to exploring the world of gig poster art. As someone who has always loved big brash graphics I've managed to find my obsession which is not only relatively affordable but also takes up very little space ( a factor worth considering when one can only afford a cramped London flat!). Whilst one one of my many visits onto the fantastic although slightly geeky website www.gigposters.com I stumbled across a bonafide gem in the American Artist Dwitt.
As soon as I saw this mans awesome work I quickly pulled my bank card out of my wallet and frantically typed in it's digits, I can't quite explain the feeling that overtook my whole body but it was like as if the devil himself had over taken my body. I wanted a piece of Dwitt artwork and I wanted it now. I typed in my address clicked the "confirmation" button and enjoyed that self indulgent feeling that I had not only spent my money wisely but I had purchased something that would be the envy of others.
It was perhaps one of the longest two weeks of my life waiting for my Dwitt package, but It was certainly worth the wait as last Tuesday when I approached my work desk, there right before my eyes was this delicious Dwitt branded tube of delight. Carefully lifting of the lid, my eyes bigger than any child's on Christmas day I peered at its contents..
I couldn't quite believe my look as I unearthed its beauty, for I not only had the two fine prints I had ordered, but a whole lot more, containing many fine examples of this geniuses work.
I imagine that I am now at this moment in time the most happiest person in the gig posters world . Everyone should own a Dwitt original and I urge you to visit his page here now as quite frankly it will improve your life (and your empty wall space)
God Bless Dwitt.
Love Tuckshop xx
