William the Conkerer















The Hampstead Heath annual conker championships consisted yet again of a most deadly, unsociable tribe. As the finest Conker players from all of the lands congregated by the Hampstead Heath bandstand, ready to pick battles with their arch nemesis . Players with a wide range of styles, backgrounds and age groups, fought it out in a sudden death affair. The stakes were high and the atmosphere was intense. Bloodied knuckles withstood every crack and smack thrown at them, as conkers danced wildly on the ends of old shoe laces. Soon the floor was littered with the organic matter of shattered conker skins as many a warrior met their peril.
